Kapula Mentoring Programme

Kapula is a mentoring programme of the Central Finland Chamber of Commerce's Communications Committee, where experienced communicators and marketers share their knowledge and networks with students in the fields (Jamk, Gradia and JYU). The programme is a pilot.

The Kapula mentoring programme offers opportunities and help in finding an internship or a job, for example, and in creating professional networks.

For example, mentoring can help with job interviews and career planning, testing your own skills or getting a good idea of what it's like to work in the communications sector.

The aim of the programme is to create contacts between students in the field of communication and marketing and to establish contacts with the world of work already during their studies, thus helping those who come to study here to put down roots in Central Finland.

Programme

- will run for six months from October 2024
- includes three joint meetings between mentors and students
- include at least three one-to-one meetings with the mentor

The mentors will be experienced communicators and marketers from the Communications Committee.

Introducing mentors:

Tuija Tiitinen, Communications Coordinator, Poke Vocational College of Northern Central Finland

I am Tuija Tiitinen and I work as a communications coordinator at Poke Vocational College in North Central Finland. I am responsible for external communication and marketing. I am a journalist, communications teacher and team coach by training.

I have spent most of my career working as a journalist in various media in Finland and abroad. For the last eight years I have worked in organisational communication and in teaching and coaching.

I joined mentoring because I like mentoring and coaching, and I have mentored young people and young adults. I prefer to mentor students who want to go into communication and journalism, but mentoring in marketing is also a good fit.

I have a long history of studying and working in journalism, communications and marketing, and I would like to help young people get a start in their careers. Mentoring is always a new experience for me, and it gives me fresh ideas about young people's lives and their way of thinking about communication.

Motto: Be curious and be brave to try new things!

Marjo Rönnkvist, communications entrepreneur, Sana tai pari Oy

I am Marjo Rönnkvist, communications consultant, journalist, FM, with 35 years of experience in journalism and communications: as a journalist, editorial secretary, news manager, editor-in-chief and communications manager. For the last few years I have been working as an entrepreneur. Sana tai Pari Ltd provides organisational communication services and speaks for clear and understandable communication. My company's slogan is 'Tolkullista viestintää'.

I was attracted to mentoring by the desire to help. I hope that my experience and expertise will help a communicator or journalist in the early stages of their career. That no one should have to struggle with professional issues alone. I believe that my long and exceptionally varied career can inspire others to be brave enough to try different options.

During the mentoring trip, I certainly learned myself. I look forward to honest talk and inspiring ideas.

Suvi Kallioinen

I'm Suvi Kallioinen and I currently work in municipal communications and previously I worked as an editor and journalist for a local newspaper for a long time. I graduated from the University of Jyväskylä in 2007 with a Master's degree in Philosophy and a major in Speech Communication.

I joined as a mentor because I would have liked to have had a mentor myself during my studies! I would have liked to get to know and network with people in my field. It would have been great to have someone alongside me to listen, encourage and instil confidence in myself and my future, and it would have been good to hear others' career stories.

I want to get to know you, help you, spar and offer my expertise. We can brainstorm together and inspire each other. I want to listen and encourage and share experiences and ideas about communication, working life and studying. I want to meet new people and the top professionals of the future - it's an honour! I want to learn new things and look at the field of communication, my career and my plans for the future with new eyes. I want the experience of mentoring.

My motto is: No one will notice you if you don't get involved!"

Anna-Kaisa Säkkinen, Director of Communications, University of Jyväskylä

I am Anna-Kaisa Säkkinen (M.Sc.) and I am currently the Director of Communications at the University of Jyväskylä. I have almost 20 years of experience in demanding communications and marketing management positions in both an international listed company and the public sector. I have worked as a front-line employee for 15 years and in my current role since 2019.

Personally, I am passionate about skills development and I know that starting your own career path is sometimes a work in progress. If I can do my part, and through my experience, to support future makers, I am happy to do so.

I hope that future communication and marketing professionals will benefit from my diverse insight into the field and the different career opportunities it offers.

I believe that the people I mentor will have fresh insights into communication and marketing and the world of work in general. It would be interesting to exchange ideas on these.
